Lucan Community College has engaged in School Development Planning since 1997. The school development planning process has since evolved into the School Self Evaluation process.
Each year the college will identify areas for review and development. A School Self-Evaluation Report (SSER) will be published to outline the review process and a School Improvement Plan (SIP) will also be published identifying strategies for improvement in certain areas. The process includes consultation with staff, students and parents and reports are approved by the Board of Management prior to publication. This structure recommended by the Department of Education and Skills provides a structure through which the college continues to focus on improving the high quality of education provided to students.

This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to purchase trolleys of laptops that can be booked by teachers to bring into classes. This targets learners at risk of educational disadvantage due to lack of access to relevant digital technologies. This has facilitated and supported participation, attendance and retention and to ensure equity of access to the curriculum. Further planning in currently in place for further use of this grant to support our learners.
