Welcome to the information page for Admissions to our college. Lucan Community College welcomes applications for all year groups and this page outlines how you should apply.

1st year applications take place on a date after 1st October each year for applicants currently in 6th class primary school. Applications must be on-time in order to be categorised as outlined in the Admission policy due to the high number of applications received each year. Transfer applications are invited from April to August of the year preceding admission.

We run an Open Evening every second year for students in 5th/6th class in primary school. This year that takes place on 1st October from 3-5pm. Students in 5th /6th class primary are invited to attend with one parent/guardian. Please note there will be no open day event held in 2025/26.

1st Year Applications are now open for 2026/27

Please apply online for 1st year 2026 via this link. Applications can be made from 9am on 2nd October 2025 up to the closing date at 5pm Friday 24th October 2025. All applications received after this date will be processed as Late applications in accordance with the school Admission Policy. Admission Policy 2026

This policy gives all of the information you need in order to apply for a place in our school. Please read it the policy, band descriptors and Appendix 4 carefully before you complete the application form as the information that you provide will affect the admission category into which your child is placed.

Online Application Process

Apply here for 1st year 2026. This link will bring you to application form from 9am 2nd October and will not work before that time.

The following information will be requested if you select various criteria:
- Feeder School: Name of primary school.
- If any of the situations in Appendix 4 applies please upload a document to explain why and select appropriate categories based on Appendix 4. Any questions, contact admin@lucancc.ie
- Current siblings or Previous siblings: Name and current year or graduation year of older siblings who attended Lucan CC.
- Name and approx. year of attendance of parent/grandparent.
Please ensure that you log in, view and print your application form (to pdf or in paper format) so that you have a record of what you submitted. This is needed in case you wish to request a review of the board of management or in case you submit a Section 29 Appeal to the Department of Education.
The following documentation must be uploaded immediately after you submit an application (see instructions below) – please have it ready for upload in pdf format:
- roof of address: 2 different registered utility bills dated with the last three months in the name of a parent/guardian where the child is resident.
- Any other documents that support your application.
- All other documentation is not required to be uploaded until Acceptance stage.
- When your application has been submitted, you will receive an email confirming this. Please complete your registration by setting up a password. You can then log in to your account using your login name and password. You can apply for admission for another child and can upload any relevant documents that you did not have available initially. To upload a document, click on the ‘documents’ tab and select the ‘green +’ button to upload documents following the instructions carefully and checking that the document has been correctly uploaded. Transfer Applications for 2026/27

The transfer application period for 2026/27 will open from 9am Friday 1st May 2025 and the closing date for receipt of applications is 3pm Friday 29th May 2025. Applications received after this date will be considered and processed as late applications in accordance with the school’s Admission Policy. Please note that the school is currently over-subscribed and transfer places may not be available in any year group.

Admission Policy

This policy gives all of the information you need in order to apply for a place in our school. Please read it carefully before you complete the application form as the information that you provide will effect the admission category into which your child is placed. Section 6 gives full information about how we process transfer applications. The information you supply in your online application and the attachments you upload will determine what priority your application is given.

Select Transfer and the relevant year group – 2nd, 3rd, Transition Year, 5th year, 5th year LCA, 6th year.

You will receive an email confirming that your application has been submitted. Please complete your registration by setting up a password. You can then log in to your account using your login name and password. You can apply for a transfer place for another child and can upload relevant documents (e.g. evidence that sibling attended or that a parent/guardian is a current member of staff of the college, evidence of having been on waiting list for Band B for in current 1st year admission policy but were not offered a place, ).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does it matter how quickly I get my application in?

Ensure that your application is submitted on-time. There is no advantage to getting an application in on the first day. Take your time and ensure it is completed properly and all requested information is provided accurately. We advise you not to try to apply the moment the system opens and certainly to avoid leaving it until the last day. As with many systems, if too many people are using it at the same time, the system may run more slowly.

How do I apply for twins?

Complete the application for the first child and submit. You will receive an email telling you how to set up an account and asking you to create a password. Then use your login details to login and click "Add Sibling" to submit another application for the second child. You can make a note on the section of both applications that invites you to provide any additional information that you are applying for twins.

What do I do if my child has been offered a place?

You will receive an email offering you a place and should complete and submit the online Acceptance Form as soon as possible, and within 2 weeks of receiving the offer of a place, with relevant information uploaded. Please respect the deadline for receipt of Acceptance Forms as we have a long waiting list of people awaiting a place.

What do I do if my child has been refused a place?

Please read the letter of refusal carefully and follow the instructions enclosed if you think that you have grounds for a review. Additional information and review forms are available below.

Please complete the BOMR1 Form and address it to The Secretary, Board of Management, Lucan Community College, Esker Drive, Lucan, Co Dublin. This form can only be submitted after you have received a letter of refusal from the school. The completed form must be submitted to the board of management within 21 calendar days from the date of the decision to refuse admission to the school. You must explain your grounds for making this request – Note: this request must be based on the implementation of the school’s admission policy and the content of the school’s annual admission notice. In that regard please specify why you consider that the school’s admission policy and/or admission notice were not applied correctly to your application for admission. You may attach additional documentation to your BOMR1 form if you wish.
If an Applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the board of management, or the board of management is not in a position to review the decision to refuse admission within 42 calendar days of initial refusal, the Applicant may apply to bring an appeal to an Appeals Committee established by the Minister for Education under section 29A of the Education Act 1998. Appeals must be made in writing on a ‘Section 29 application form’ and must be submitted to the Section 29 Appeals Administration Unit in the Department of Education. The Section 29 Appeal Form may be downloaded from the Department’s website or may be obtained directly from the Section 29 Appeals Administration Unit in the Department of Education. Contact details for the Unit are available on the Department’s website. As per the Department of Education’s ‘Procedures for hearing and determining appeals under section 29’, such an appeal must not be brought until the Applicant has received correspondence from the board of management in relation to the review, or until 42 calendar days have passed since the date of initial refusal and may not be brought later than 63 calendar days after the initial decision to refuse admission.

Change of Catchment Area for Admissions 2025/26 and beyond

Change of residential catchment area:

Parent/Guardians of primary school children should note that the board of management has made changes to the catchment area that will apply to all applications received in October 2024 for a place in the school year 2025/26 and following years. The consultation process ran during the 2022/23 school year and invited input from primary school principals and boards of managements, parents, staff members and all stakeholders. The survey showed that proximity to school was the highest priority for category placement in the opinion of these stakeholders. The board also noted the geographical position of feeder primary schools and other local second level schools when making their decision. The board of management made the change the catchment area applied to Category B applicants to increase the chances that applicants at closer proximity to the school will be offered a place.
