Q: Can LCVP be included in calculation of points?
A: LCVP can be counted as one of your 6 best subjects in the calculation of CAO points. See a breakdown of how CAO points can be used here.
Q: What subjects are most popular?
A: This depends on trends and changes yearly. In the last two years Leaving Certificate PE has been very popular.
Q: What are the chances of getting my preferred choice of options?
A In general, 90% students will get No.1, 75% No.2, and approximately 66% No.3. Therefore, a student’s 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and choices are crucially important. It is important that you reflect before deciding your preference based on student interest, aptitude, and career options.
Q: Will there be an opportunity for students who do not study a foreign language to study another subject?
Yes every effort will be made to accommodate students who do not study a foreign language. In the last few years this subject has been Geography, but this may change depending on school resources.
Q Will the school accommodate me to study a subject not offered by the school?
Students wishing to pursue a subject not offered by the school will have to study this subject
independently. However, we will accommodate students to sit their state examinations in a subject that they have studied externally.
Q Can a student take up a subject that they have not studied in Junior Cycle?
Yes, students can take up a new subject once they are aware that any new subject will require extra commitment and engagement on behalf of the student.
Q Can a student do higher level in a subject that they have studied at ordinary level for Junior Cycle?
We advise any student considering in this situation to consult with the relevant subject teacher.
