Notice to parents re strike day 22 January 2015
20 January 2015
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
The teaching unions TUI and ASTI have informed the DDLETB (our employer, Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board) that all TUI and ASTI union members have been directed to take strike action on Thursday 22nd January. Pickets will be placed on all schools, colleges and education centres where TUI or ASTI members are employed on that day.
As a result DDLETB will not be in a position to discharge its responsibilities with regard to the care of students in its charge.
Lucan Community College and DDLETB is therefore requesting you to keep your son(s) and/or daughter(s) at home from school on Thursday 22nd January.
The Mock exams will be starting soon so 3rd years and 6th years have plenty to study. Transition Year students are preparing for work experience and have a number of projects that they can be working on and other students have homework and plenty to revise. Please encourage your son/daughter to use the time at home to revise and study.
Yours sincerely
Diane Birnie (Principal)
Parent Newsletter
Our parents newsletter for December is now available to read here. In it you will find news of recent and upcoming events and our updated calendar.
Athletics – Dublin Cross Country competition
Congratulations to our 14 students who participated in the Dublin Cross-Country race in Lucan Harriers grounds on Wednesday 19th November. The biggest ever number of participants in this event raced through the wind, rain and muck and the students from Lucan CC performed extremely well. Congratulations to students Yetunde Gbenle, Aine Burke, Nicole Smyth, and Eoin O’Sullivan who won medals or were very highly placed in their races.
Toilet Refurbishment Begins
Noises and dust are emanating from our senior toilets as work finally begins on our toilet refurbishment. Work will move from one toilet block to another over the next few months until we have brand new and up to date facilities in place for staff and students. The patience of the school community is much appreciated as the work is in progress.
Building work progresses
Building work on the five temporary classrooms is progressing at speed. This block will house three general classrooms, one Home Economics kitchen and one Technology/Design Communication Graphics room. Students will have access to these rooms after Christmas and once the full school extension is completed the area will be converted to hard courts for use for outdoor activities. Some of the trees removed to facilitate the building work will also be replaced.
Irish debating
Comhghairdeas le foirne díospóireachta Gaeilge na scoile a ghlac páirt sa chéad babtha den comórtas Gael Linn an seachtain seo. Ba choir go mbeidís an bhródúil astu féin. Éacht iontach ab ea é bheith páirteach sa chomórtas seo. Mí Ádh don fhoireann sinsearach nár éirigh dul ar aghaidh agus go n-éirí leis an bhfoireann Sóisearach go háirithe a bhuaigh in aghaidh Coláiste na nDoiminceánach atá ag dul ar aghaidh don céad babtha eile.
Foireann Sóiearach : Jordan Hartnett, Alex Healy, Matthew O’Donnell (Junior)
Foireann Sínearach : Amy Cassidy, Orla Beagan, Jenny Bowler (Senior)
Congratulations to our Irish debating teams who took part in the first round of the Gael Linn Competition recently. They should be extremely proud of themselves. It was a great achievement to take part. Hard luck to our senior team who did not go through to the next round and the very best of luck to our junior team who beat the Dominican College, Sion Hill to go through to the next level.
Soccer success
Congratulations to Danielle Murray, a fifth year student who represented the Republic of Ireland at the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship Qualifiers in Serbia. The team successfully qualified for the next phase of the competition.
