Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th years at LCC,
We are delighted to be running several extra initiatives designed to help empower our 5th years to take good care of their health and well-being. We recognise the importance of re-energising and equipping our students with the skills to cope a little better with the demands of modern life, exams and adolescence. Being a teenager coincides with the increased influence of peers and social media, the pressure of exams and a range of other issues. With this in mind.
- All 5th year parents/guardians are cordially invited to join an online presentation on March 24 The presentation will be given by Psychologist, Evan Costigan. (A link will be text to parents on Wednesday 23rd and displayed on our website).
School: Lucan Community College.
Programme: Parenting Teens: A Road-Map for Well-Being.
Audience: 5 th year parents and guardians.
Date: Thursday 24 th March 2022.
Delivery: Online via Zoom.
Timing: 7pm – 8:15pm.
Content: 1. Communication: talking to teenagers, 2. Building emotional resilience in teens. 3. Establishing a healthy routine for school 4. A game plan for exam well-being 5. Q & A.
- There will also be a follow-up face to face workshop, ‘Boost your wellbeing’, for all 5th year students, presented by Evan and his team on the 4th and 5th of April in the school. Students will be asked to pay €12 towards the cost of the workshop through our online payment system. https://ams.enrol.ie/lucancc/index.aspx
- We will also be joined for the rest of the school year by Jennifer Keating, a senior speech and language therapist who in consultation with the year management team and the additional education team, will be providing workshop-based group support to the year group in relation to resilience and wellbeing issues.
- Although our 5th year students engage in various means of continuous class assessment, we are planning to run formal in-house examinations for our 5th LC students at the end of this term. This will help them to focus on academic achievement and individual student goal setting.
We are delighted to let you know that the Leaving cert applied credits for Session 1 have all been returned and students will receive a statement of results in the coming weeks. They did so well.
They sat their first task interview recently and were complimented by the visiting examiner, once they have the initial nervousness out of the way they can only do even better in the tasks ahead.
They will have two more task interviews at the end of April and a practical exam and an oral exam in May so it is so vital that students are in school every day.
The group attended a trip to Awesome Walls in Finglas in recognition of their great classroom behaviour and application to their work. We are planning to reward all 5th years for their individual endeavours at the end of the term by organising a school trip. (details to follow later in the term)
As a school and year management team we remain committed to doing our best for our students- ‘they are a wonderful year group’ and we thank you for your continued support. If I could ask you to continue the practice of regularly checking VSware to monitor your child’s attendance and punctuality and to communicate with us regarding every absence.
If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us at admin@lucancc.ie
