The Board of Management of Lucan Community College at its meeting on Tuesday 14th December 2020 decided to increase the maximum number of places to be offered in First Year 2021 from 144 to 168.
This decision was made in response to the large number of parents who wrote to the Board to request an increase in enrolment. The decision also serves to maintain a steady number of students enrolled from year to year to maximise the teacher allocation and other resources currently received by the college.
Places will now be offered to the next 24 applicants on the Category B waiting list. We ask parents of applicants who intend to accept a place in Lucan Community College to let other schools they either have a place in or are on the waiting list for, know of their decision so that places can be made available for students who are currently without a school place in the area. All second level schools are currently comparing acceptance and waiting lists on the instructions of the Department of Education and Skills in order to ascertain if there are sufficient places for students in the area.
As stated in the enrolment policy, the Board reserve the right to decide the maximum number of places that will be offered in 1st year each year and to make adjustments to the maximum number of students accepted into other year group as it deemed necessary being mindful of the need to ensure overall student numbers do not exceed levels appropriate to the capacity of the school building and safety considerations arising from its design.
