RETIREMENT WISHES
Friday 23rd October marked the last day for Ms Margaret Ryan as a teacher in our school as she is retiring from teaching to start a new exciting journey. Ms Ryan started working in our school in 1985/6 before the school moved from its former home in Lucan Vocational School to its current home as Lucan Community College.
She has worked with many Home Economics colleagues during her 35 years of professional service in our school community including Ann McHugh, Johanna Williams and current Home Ec team Martin Feeney and Nicola Walsh and this week she introduced our newest staff member Ms Hackett to all of her students.
Ms Ryan is first and foremost a teacher of Home Economics and those students who have been lucky enough to have her as a teacher know the high standards and expectations she has had for each and every one of you as well as the individual feedback and support she has offered to help you to reach those standards. She has sought ways to expand the influence of the Home Ec department beyond the JC and LC subject classroom through TY cookery modules, classes on nutrition and healthy eating and with the LCA Hotel Catering and Tourism module and has been an important part of building home economics up to being one of our most popular option subjects.
Ms Ryan has taken on many other roles and responsibilities during her time in LucanCC including working on the important change of focus from vocational school to community college in 1987, planning for and contributing to many important school events including retirements for others staff members and our school’s 25th anniversary, leading a year Management team as Year Head, planning and writing the school timetable for many years and more recently leading our whole school Wellbeing programme with an excellent team of volunteers.
Throughout her time in Lucan CC Ms Ryan has worked hard to achieve positive outcomes for our students, to provide friendship and support for her colleagues and to seek ways to maintain and improve the ethos of Aontas/Unity within our school community.
We wish Ms Ryan every happiness in her new adventure and hope that she continues to bring ideas and energy to whatever new endeavours she takes on in the future.
