Events coming up at LCC

Reading Week 2019

Reading Week will be taking place in Lucan CC next week, 11th to 15th November, with lots of activities planned for our students.

The promotion of reading with our students has always been important to us. We want our students to read more. We would like them to enjoy reading. We know that reading builds vocabulary, fluency, and background knowledge. We thank you in advance for the support you have given us in our efforts over the years.

Our Transition Year LLN Student Committee will help in organising the event and we will have lots of fun competitions taking place.

Students will be asked to spot the opening line to a book, which will be announced each day. We will have Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) time each day during Period 6 where everyone will get a chance to switch off and enjoy the escape provided by a good book.

We will also have an author visit our school who will give advice to budding writers.

We will use Reading Week to launch our new Book Swap Dock. Please support us in running this book swap facility by sending in any books your children are finished reading and which you like to share with others. We can only accept books suited to teenagers. It’s a wonderful facility to have in our school and we hope to run it throughout the year with your help.

Please encourage your son/daughter to get involved, bring a book in each day and to read at home during the week. Thank you in advance for supporting this literacy initiative in the college.

Many thanks from The English Department & The LLN Committee

We are delighted to announce the winners of our Reading Week Poster Competition for 2023. The standard of talent and creativity was outstanding. Well done to everyone who entered a poster. The overall winners are Ellen Birnie (Junior) and Naoise Murphy (Senior). Congratulations!

Our Second Years are thoroughly enjoying their trip to Barcelona! Thanks to Ms McKelvey and the team of teachers who have travelled with over 140 second year students to give them this fantastic opportunity. @ddletb @LccAssoc
