Junior Certificate/Cycle Celebrations 2018

Lucan Community College was a sea of smiles as our 2018 Junior Certificate/Cycle students received their results on September 12th.

Ms Birnie and Deputy Principals Mr Purcell, Mr Brett and Ms Kirwan were amazed and so proud as the standard of results achieved this year were simply outstanding.

The staff of Lucan Community College joined in congratulating the 142 students who completed their examinations this year as they opened their results in a sun-drenched Memorial Garden.

Particular mention goes to top achiever Faye Murphy with 9As and a distinction (perfect grades in every subject). However the standard of results was outstanding across the range of subjects in the college.

In Home Economics 90% of our students took higher level (compared to 85% nationally) with an amazing 88% of students achieving an A or B grade at this level (compared to 62% nationally). 95% of our Science students opted for the higher level exam (compared to 80% nationally) with half of those students achieving a grade A or B (compared to 38% nationally).

In Maths, 65% of our students took the higher level paper (above the national average of 57%) with 99% of students passing across all levels of the subject (87%).

90% of our history students took higher level with 20% achieving a grade A (both statistics are above the national average). 92% of our students took higher level geography with 40% achieving a grade A or B (again above the national average).

Our Modern Foreign Languages team (French and German) had more than 10% more students taking higher level compared to the national averages in these subjects and ensured that almost every student achieved a pass at their chosen level (0.04% failure rate compared to 13% failure rate nationally).

These statistics represent just some of the ways that students in the college are achieving well over the national average in the state examinations which reflects and rewards the hard work of both students and teachers.

While statistics show the overall success of this year group, we celebrate in particular the individual achievements of students who overcame challenges and setbacks and we appreciate the help and support given to them along the way by parents and staff.

The Lucan Community College Junior Certificate/Cycle class of 2018 can justifiable celebrate three years of hard work and effort.

The students will be issued with their Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement later this year which will include details of their final exam grades (following conclusion of the appeals process), results from their English Classroom Base Assessments as well as a profile of student’s involvement in other aspects of school activities.

The JCPA marks the widening of the assessment process to reward achievement across a broader spectrum of student learning.

Particular thanks must go to all of the teachers, parents and support staff who helped to prepare our students for their examinations and who created opportunities in our curricular and extra-curricular programme to engage students in a broad and balanced educational experience.

We are delighted to announce the winners of our Reading Week Poster Competition for 2023. The standard of talent and creativity was outstanding. Well done to everyone who entered a poster. The overall winners are Ellen Birnie (Junior) and Naoise Murphy (Senior). Congratulations!

Our Second Years are thoroughly enjoying their trip to Barcelona! Thanks to Ms McKelvey and the team of teachers who have travelled with over 140 second year students to give them this fantastic opportunity. @ddletb @LccAssoc

Ryan Lally from Grá Pizza ran a great workshop today on pizza making as part of a wellbeing promotion, and also talked about setting up your own business and all about buying good Irish ingredients. Staff and students were delighted with the pizzas! #wellbeing #buyIrish @ddletb

Thank you to our Parents' Association for the fabulous Easter treats which were kindly received by the teachers of Lucan Community College. We are grateful to have a fantastic Parents' Association who do phenomenal work behind the scenes for our school community. @LccAssoc
