Lucan Community College will open Monday 5th March at 10.25am

Lucan Community College will open tomorrow with classes starting with registration at 10.25am thanks to the trojan efforts of a small team of staff, parents, students and friends of the college and thanks to a generous local farmer with a JCB.

It is a non uniform day and students should wear solid waterproof walking shoes/boots with good grips for their safety and appropriate waterproof leggings and coat.

Parents are advised not to drive up to the school gate – the usual pull-in places to drop students off are not accessible and nearby estates especially Cannonbrook are still dangerous for cars.

Students walking should take extreme care as many footpaths have not been cleared and are still very slippy and dangerous.

Students should use the pedestrian gates and the usual student school entrance.

Students should not pick up the snow in school and throwing snowballs is not permitted. Small stones and rubbish have by now combined with the snow and could be a danger.

Students should keep to the cleared walkways around the school and should not go through any remaining snow drifts.

During lunchtime students should take care if walking home and senior students should take care walking to local shops.

Students staying in for lunch are to remain in the school building and should not be on the pitch or in other snow-covered or muddy areas. The school canteen will be open for business.

Both courtyards are still snowbound and have been taped off so students should not enter them and remain on the walkways that have been cleared.

A number of students in the 1st year locker areas have been leaving books and uniform items on the ground. These have now got very wet with the snow. Students should only leave things in their lockers or their schoolbags.

We expect to have most staff present tomorrow. Students should ensure they have something to study or a book to read where a teacher is absent and work has not been assigned.

Adult education night classes and student supervised study will run as usual.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and assistance during this challenging weather event.

We expect to be back to our full timetable, full uniform and full school day from 8.55am on Tuesday
