Arts Week took place and took over Lucan Community College for the week before midterm break for 5 successive days. Arts Week is our chance as a school community to celebrate the visual, dramatic and creative arts.
This academic year coincides with the 30th Anniversary of Lucan Community College and with this milestone occasion our theme for the year is Legacy. Every effort was made to ensure that the theme influenced the proceedings.
Throughout the week students took part in workshops including Rapping, African Drumming, Animation and Hip Hop Dancing. They also enjoyed a lunchtime disco provided by 6th Year student, Luke Cross.
On the Wednesday evening, a Variety Show organised by Mr. O’Connor, Mr. Upton and Mr. Coogan, showcased a range of talents from the students of Lucan Community College. The standard of talent was incredible. Well done to all involved!
This year for Arts Week, the students took part in the creation of a collaborative piece of visual art. Each student created their own miniature self-portrait which will be used to create a mosaic. This is in keeping with the theme of Legacy and will certainly contribute towards each of the students legacy in Lucan Community College. We look forward to its unveiling!
The finale of Arts Week 2017 took place on Friday the 27th October when staff and students participated in a dress-up day. This years theme was an obvious choice – Legends – in keeping with the theme of Legacy. Staff and students alike made a fantastic effort with their costumes with some of the ‘Legends’ including; Steve Jobs, Jesus, Kurt Cobain, Santa Claus, Medusa and even the legendary David Attenborough!
The Arts Week committee of Ms Gallagher, Ms Howley, Ms Mulhern and Ms Suttle, expertly guided by Mr Duffy, would like to thank everyone for their participation in Arts Week. We hope it was an enjoyable week for all.
