Congratulations to 5th year students Amy Cassidy, Eoin Hayes, Blanaid Smyth and Sarah Walsh from the LCC Amnesty group, who have been shortlisted to attend interviews for the EIL Youth Activism travel awards. This award is to attend “Social Justice and Youth Leadership workshops” in Vermont, USA for 10 days during the summer of 2016, with students from 60 other countries. It is great that students have got through to the final stages, after being nominated by Amnesty International Ireland, completing detailed personal statements and outlines of creative and thought provoking action projects that they would implement if successful. Well done to the students for all their hard work and we wish them well in the forthcoming interviews! Thanks to the teachers who facilitate the Amnesty group – Ms O Donoghue and Ms McCarthy – for their continued work with the group. This group plays an important role in awareness raising of important issues in the college.
