School Bank Launch 2015

The school bank had their official opening ceremony on Thursday 5th November.  The Transition year students who form the school bank are Manager Daragh White O’Conor, Gill McAlister, Jordan Harnett, Eimear and Hannah Mahony. These students have been running the bank with the help of Ms Freeman, Mr Foley & Mrs Williams.  Thye organised the opening around the visit of a famous Irish sportstar and All Ireland Winner, Henry Shefflin.  The students set up their bank in the dining hall surrounded by balloons & Kilkenny colours.  They invited the many first years who had opened accounts to come along and join in the celebrations.

The launch began with the arrival of Henry Shefflin and Tracey and Yvonne from Bank of Ireland in Lucan Village. Following a welcome from the school Principal Ms Birnie, Henry met with some staff members in the staffroom, following this he was given a guard of honour by the schools Hurling and Camogie teams to the school dining hall.  Mrs Williams opened the proceedings by welcoming the students, Bank officials and Henry.  Henry spoke to the audience of students and staff before cutting the ribbon and officially opening the bank.  The students who had opened accounts were placed in a drawn for a Jersey.  The winner of the jersey was Kevin Flanagan who was presented with a Dublin Jersey by Henry Shefflin.

Once the official protocol was out of the way Henry kindly stayed for photos and autographs with the students & staff.  We would like to thank Henry, Yvonne & Tracey for making this a memorable occasion.
