Solar Eclipse – Update from Science Department

As you may be aware Ireland will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse on the morning of  Friday March 20th. It will begin at 8.30am and end at 10.30am with totality occurring at 9.30am. In Ireland a maximum of 92% of the sun will be covered. We will not experience a similar event in Ireland until 2026 and not in Dublin until 2600!!

Please note that looking at the sun is dangerous and can result in serious and permanent damage to the eyes. The only way to look at the sun is indirectly or through a special filter. The link here gives further information on safety and ways to make a simple eclipse viewer. http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/eclipse-tips-safety.html

The link here will be streaming live pictures of the eclipse. http://live.slooh.com/stadium/live/the-total-solar-eclipse-of-2015
Fingers crossed for clear skies!!
