Extra and Co-curricular recent events
Badminton – Ms Gallagher & Inion Ni Riain
Under 16 girls badminton made in through to the final of division 4 in the Dublin Schools Badminton League. Their final will be played in the badminton centre in Whitehall, Terenure on 12th March against Loreto Bray.
The under 14 girls also made it to the final and we are waiting to hear who they will meet in the final. The under 14 boys beat De La Salle Churchtown and they too they will be in the final of division 4.
The under 19 boys did very well also just narrowly missing a place in the final of division 3.
Many students are beginners and there is no junior club in the area to enhance their training so they are doing very well.
U-18 Gaelic Football – Mr McGowan
Our U-18 boys Gaelic football team lost out in the quarter finals this week to Terenure College in terrible weather conditions. This team did very well to win their group and to progress to the quarter finals and were unlucky to have to play in storm-force winds.
U-14 Gaelic Football – Mr Carey
The team reached the final in the U-14 competition but were not successful in this case.
Young Scientist
Our 1st year students visited the RDS to see Young Scientist projects and science demonstrations. Thanks to the students for their excellent behaviour and interest in the event and to Ms Healy for organising the day.
Gluais 1st year quiz
Congratulations to our Gluais team who held a very successful 1st year quiz as part of the Christmas celebrations for 1st years. The excitement in the assembly hall was incredible and there was great competition between the teams.
1st year soccer
Congratulations to Mr Nolan’s U-14 boys soccer team who had some excellent wins recently.
Debating
Ms Van Esbeck’s senior debating team secured a draw in the second of their Concern debates with the motion: “The international community are indifferent to Ebola”. Particular thanks to James Carron who stepped onto the team at the last minute and gave a great performance. They also won their most recent debate with a motion: “Scotland should have voted for independence”.
