General uniform description

Our school uniform plays a key role in maintaining the high standards we expect of our students. In order to maintain this high standard we ask that all of our students wear their full uniform with pride at all times in school. The school uniform is outlined below.

  • The uniform at Lucan Community College consists of a black jumper with the college crest, and a red/grey/black striped tie.
  • The school coat is black with an embroidered school crest logo. This coat must be worn while travelling to and from school and can also be worn in the school building. Non-school coats will be confiscated within the school grounds
  • Girls wear these with a white shirt, with a choice of grey/black/red plaid kilt or grey uniform trousers and black socks or tights.
  • Boys wear these with grey trousers, a grey shirt and grey socks (proper uniform socks, NOT shoe liners/invisible socks).
  • Black shoes, either leather or leatherette (fake leather), must be worn everyday by students as part of the school uniform. The shoe must be completely black – this includes the sole, upper and laces. No visible logo is allowed on the shoe. The nature of our school building and Irish weather necessitates this rule.
  • Students partaking in PE must wear the correct P.E. uniform outlined below.
  • Scarfs and hats must match the colour of our uniform (black) and cannot be worn in class.

GIRL’S UNIFORM

  • Kilt (must reach below the knee) OR grey uniform trousers (must be proper school uniform trousers – track-suit or tight fitting trousers are not acceptable)

PE UNIFORM

  • All students should wear their full PE uniform to school on the day their class has timetabled PE. The PE uniform should be worn for the full day when PE is scheduled on the timetable for students. This is a change from current practice.
  • This will reduce the weight of bags that students need to bring to school, reduce the need for storage space for schoolbags and PE bags and ensure that students have a longer time engaging in PE class as they will no longer need to change at the start or end of class. While awaiting our new extension including a new PE hall, this will also alleviate the stress on our limited PE changing facilities for staff and students.
  • For all students the PE uniform must consist of the new crested school tracksuit top, crested full college tracksuit (top and bottoms) and appropriate footwear (any colour runners suitable for multi-sports) unless the older PE uniform still fits the student in which case it can be retained. The previous version of the school’s PE uniform consists of plain white t-shirt/polo (no logos), plain black tracksuit bottoms (no logos, no leggings, no sports tights), a crested black tracksuit top, and appropriate footwear (any colour runners suitable for multi-sports).

SCHOOL SHOES

Black shoes, either leather or leatherette (fake leather), must be worn everyday by students as part of the school uniform. The shoe must be completely black – this includes the sole, upper and laces. No visible logo is allowed on the shoe. The nature of our school building and Irish weather necessitates this rule.

The following shoes are not permitted:

  • Canvas runner shoes (Converse, Vans, etc)
  • Fabric runners of any kind (Nike, Adidas, etc)
  • Shoes/runners with lighter colour or white soles)
  • Boots of any kind

SCHOOL COAT

  • The school coat is black with an embroidered school crest logo. This coat must be worn while travelling to and from school and can also be worn in the school building.
  • Non-school coats will be confiscated.

In addition to the official school uniform the college has expectations in relation to the personal presentation of students.
