Calling all new coders to an hour of code in E5

hourofcode

This week we celebrate national Computer Science Education Week in the college which coincides with the celebration of 50 years since kids programming languages were first introduced to the world.

For the past number of years here in Lucan Community College we have been doing our bit to encourage students to get involved in coding with Ms McCarthy and Mr Foley run a Scratch Coding Club after school on Wednesday afternoons.

This year, we have a particularly enthusiastic group of students who have impressed us with their creativity and problem solving abilities in the world of coding. Their willingness to help out and to even teach the group is what makes the club a success.

Scratch Club is open to all students and we would like to invite students who are not regular members of the LCC Scratch Club to join us in the hour of code in Room E5 at 1:15 this Wednesday where they can sample some self-led coding tutorials in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Spaces are limited so please contact either Ms McCarthy or Mr Foley in advance to ensure we have a place for you.

Lucan Community College’s Parents Association will host their first meeting of the new school year on the 5th September at 7.30pm. The Parents Association would love to use the occasion of this first meeting to welcome new members, whether your children are in the college already or if they are new students to us.

The Parents Association is great way to get involved in school life, get to know other parents and contribute in a voluntary capacity. As always, the College would like to thank the Parents Association for their continued work over the years and look forward to working closely with them again over the coming year.
