Californian researchers visit the college

scifest

Lucan Community College played host to two researchers from South California Doctoral Programme on Thursday 21st April. Mathew Holton and Owen Crosby, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, visited our Science teachers and students to research the effect of student participation in science projects such as BT Young Scientist and Scifest on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths education. They observed several classes, interviewed teachers and students and arranged completion of research questionnaires as part of their visit. Our thanks to teachers Audrey Byrne, Aisling Quirke and all of the science department for facilitating the visit. We wish Mat and Owen and the other participants in the programme every success with their research.

Lucan Community College’s Parents Association will host their first meeting of the new school year on the 5th September at 7.30pm. The Parents Association would love to use the occasion of this first meeting to welcome new members, whether your children are in the college already or if they are new students to us.

The Parents Association is great way to get involved in school life, get to know other parents and contribute in a voluntary capacity. As always, the College would like to thank the Parents Association for their continued work over the years and look forward to working closely with them again over the coming year.
