Building work progresses

buildinga

Building work on the five temporary classrooms is progressing at speed. This block will house three general classrooms, one Home Economics kitchen and one Technology/Design Communication Graphics room. Students will have access to these rooms after Christmas and once the full school extension is completed the area will be converted to hard courts for use for outdoor activities. Some of the trees removed to facilitate the building work will also be replaced.

Irish debating

Comhghairdeas le foirne díospóireachta Gaeilge na scoile a ghlac páirt sa chéad babtha den comórtas Gael Linn an seachtain seo.  Ba choir go mbeidís an bhródúil astu féin. Éacht iontach ab ea é bheith páirteach sa chomórtas seo.  Mí Ádh don fhoireann sinsearach nár éirigh dul ar aghaidh agus go n-éirí leis an bhfoireann Sóisearach go háirithe a bhuaigh in aghaidh Coláiste na nDoiminceánach atá ag dul ar aghaidh don céad babtha eile.

Foireann Sóiearach : Jordan Hartnett, Alex Healy, Matthew O’Donnell (Junior)

Foireann Sínearach :  Amy Cassidy, Orla Beagan, Jenny Bowler (Senior)

Congratulations to our Irish debating teams who took part in the first round of the Gael Linn Competition recently.  They should be extremely proud of themselves.  It was a great achievement to take part. Hard luck to our senior team who did not go through to the next round and the very best of luck to our junior team who beat the Dominican College, Sion Hill to go through to the next level.

Soccer success

Congratulations to Danielle Murray, a fifth year student who represented the Republic of Ireland at the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship Qualifiers in Serbia. The team successfully qualified for the next phase of the competition.

Senior Development Cup Rugby

Lucan CC had an impressive win against Portmarnock Community School 37-7. The team played as a unit and were very aggressive in the break-down scoring 7 tries to 1. Man of the match was Eric Greene. This is following on from their impressive win against Castleknock Community College last week. Team mentors are Mr Byrne and Mr Morrissey. This is the furthest that a rugby team from Lucan CC has reached in this competition. Best of luck in the next round lads!

Arts Week

artsweekaOur annual arts week was a wonderful success with students participating in a wide range of workshops and activities throughout the week. The student talent show on Monday night showcased our wonderfully musical and artistic students and was expertly and uniquely compered by Deven O’Kearney. Wednesday was our Halloween themed dress-up day – hope not too many Lucanians were traumatized by the ghoulish costumes! We ended with a sponsored ice-bucket challenge with students, teachers and principal braving a soaking in order to raise money for arts week and for Pieta house. Well done to all for your participation and to our Arts week team for organizing events.

Reading Week

Silence fell around LCC at 12.35 every day during Reading Week while students and teachers discovered the pleasure of immersing yourself in a good book. Good luck to all who entered our Halloween poetry competition and well done to those who received certificates for engaging in the Bookworm Summer reading club. Thanks to our English department and literacy team.

Athletics success

athletics1 athletics2Congratulations to 3rd year student Max Carey on winning the Minor Boys Leinster Multi event in Athlone IT. We had a large team of students who travelled and competed in a wide range of Athletic events. Mr Nolan was very impressed with the enthusiasm and effort shown by the squad.

Jersey day

Students and staff raised over €1350 for Goal when jerseys of every sport, county and country were worn last Friday. Thanks to Mr Byrne and the prefect team for arranging collection of monies.

Application for 1st year 2016

Thanks to the various local primary schools who facilitated visits recently. Apologies to those we did not manage to visit. Hopefully our recent open evening served to answer queries from prospective parents and students. Applications forms for 1st year 2016 are now available from the college office (current 5th class students). Closing date is strictly 4.30pm Friday 24th October.

Building news

The college grounds are a hive of activity again with building works resuming on temporary accommodation including much needed home economics kitchen and technology room. The new design team for the school extension and refurbishment met last week and we are delighted that the process is moving forward again. We look forward to having our new PE hall, DCG, art and science rooms and library.
