Emotional Well-being Week

walkinmyshoesThis week, our students and teachers participated in the National Emotional Well-being Week. There was emphasis on mental health awareness with tips each day from our prefect team to help achieve a healthier, less stressful life. On Wednesday, we had Walk in my shoesday with students and teachers wearing odd shoes which focussed on getting out of our comfort zones and try to remove any stigma associated with mental health difficulties. A collection took place with all proceeds going to St.Patrick’s Hospital Foundation who provide access to mental health services for young adults in Ireland.

French trip

The Speech

DSC00042-1Three of our First year Junior Debating students entered into the Matheson Junior Debating competition The Speech. Each student had to make a video recreating a famous speech from history or film that was then uploaded onto Facebook where students would progress by public vote.

1st Year – Darragh – The Kings Speech
1st Year – Alex – The Hunger Games (400+votes)
1st Year – Gayatri – Helen Keller

Gayatri narrowly lost out on the 3rd finalist position. Alex and Darragh are two of three Junior Finalists. Students videos are currently before a panel of film and oratorical experts who will choose the overall winner.

Lucan Community College’s Parents Association will host their first meeting of the new school year on the 5th September at 7.30pm. The Parents Association would love to use the occasion of this first meeting to welcome new members, whether your children are in the college already or if they are new students to us.

The Parents Association is great way to get involved in school life, get to know other parents and contribute in a voluntary capacity. As always, the College would like to thank the Parents Association for their continued work over the years and look forward to working closely with them again over the coming year.
